AWS has launched a new line of hands-on “microcredential” digital badges aimed at validating real-world skills, not just multiple-choice knowledge. The announcement is here: Earn AWS's generative AI certification and build cloud, AI skills with new tools.
A few years ago, the SysOps exam included labs, but they were removed “temporarily” and never came back. Many of us have been asking for meaningful hands-on validation, and AWS is finally responding with these new microcredentials.
As of today, there are two available:
AWS Serverless Demonstrated and AWS Agentic AI Demonstrated
Skill Builder course: AWS Skill Builder
Skill Builder course: AWS Skill Builder
Unlike the free “knowledge” badges, these microcredentials require access to the Skill Builder subscription tier (currently listed at around $29/month or $449/year), kinda sucks in my opinion. Is this a straight money grab from AWS?.
It’s worth mentioning that these are not offical certifications from AWS, but I bet this is a training ground of sort for future certs.
Here is the credly badges that you can earn.
The official announcement from Amazon can be found here.
What do you guys think? Useful? Money grab? Is this something you plan to go after?
