I'm looking at researching AWS and looking through all my options. How much time and effort should I put into the research into AWS to see if it's right for my project?

I believe it depends on how fast you can grab the technicalities related to AWS. Perhaps, along with learning how to use it, you can start using Free Tier, so that you can learn from your personal experience rather than reading knowledgebase articles or watching videos.
