How Do You Choose AWS Regions and Availability Zones

AWS has multiple regions and zones. How do you choose regions and zones? Does it actually matter where you launch your resources? Can choosing the wrong region affect speed and also cost?

You should always choose regions close to your users. This will reduce latency as well as cost. Before choosing the region, always check service availability, pricing, and compliance needs. You can also use multiple availability zones within a region for high availability. If you are just starting out, you should start with one region and two zones to make it easier to work on.

You can pick a region close to your users for lower latency, then choose multiple AZs for higher uptime. Cost, service availability, and data rules also play a part while choosing region.
